Local Area Information

Lelant has a glorious sandy beach, superb rural walks and a great selection of pubs and restaurants.

From the village take the path from the church down to Porthkidney Sands. This gorgeous beach has stunning views across to St Ives. When the tide’s right, you can walk along the beach to Carbis Bay (please check the tide times first).

The beach is dog-friendly all year, and is simply one of the best places in West Cornwall to bring your pup for a scamper.

Often voted “the most beautiful train ride in Britain", the short St Ives branch line runs from the mainline at St Erth to St Ives along Hayle estuary and the coast, with stops at Lelant and Carbis Bay. It arrives in St Ives within 10 minutes, and you’re practically straight onto Porthminster Beach. Aim to sit on the right hand side for those glorious coastal views. The train may get busy in the summer, but it’s still easier than parking in St Ives itself.

Alternatively to avoid the stress and expense of parking in St Ives, take the open top bus into St Ives from immediately in front of the house. Services tend to tun every 15 minutes.

Fancy a round of golf? Lelant is home to the West Cornwall Golf Club and is the oldest course in Cornwall. Visitors are welcome to play here: just book online in advance. The sea views from the golf course are stunning.

Lelant has a number of pubs and restaurants, all within walking distance of the house. The Badger Inn, The Forge, Birdies Bistro and the Watermill are definitely worth a visit. All are also dog friendly.

Less than 10 minutes away is St Ives – the dazzling jewel in Cornwall’s crown. A picturesque fishing harbour and seaside town voted best family holiday destination by Coast magazine and one of TripAdvisor’s top 10 European beaches. Wander through the maze of narrow cobbled streets, independent shops and fisherman’s cottages in the heart of St Ives. Sample some of the best award-winning restaurants, cafés and bars in the Southwest or surf at the blue flag-rated Porthmeor beach and feel the soft sand between your toes.

Whatever you choose to do, Ivy Mount is the perfect base for all your adventures.

Absolutely loved our stay at Ivy Mount. Such a beautiful, specious house. Great amenities, everything we needed and more. It was easy to find and we were welcomed by a Cornish cream tea with home made ...
